To help raise awareness about poverty issues and the needs of low-income individuals and families in our community, we are sponsoring two Poverty Simulations in partnership with New York State Community Action Association during the month of May. Register by May 19, 2017 for one or both Poverty Simulations listed below!

May 24, 9 am - 11 am

Booker T. Washington Community Center
23 Champman Avenue, Auburn NY 13021
May 25, 9 am - 11 am

St. Mary's Church Gymnasium
25 Center Street, Waterloo NY 13165

Poverty Simulations provide participants with the opportunity to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget. The experience is divided into four 15-minute sessions, each of which represents one week in which participants must provide for their family and maintain their home.  By the end of the Simulation, participants will have a deeper understanding of the classic struggles of the poor, be able to better empathize with people living in poverty, and learn how they can help solve this pervasive social problem. While there is no cost to participate, an accurate head count is needed to properly plan for and carry out each Poverty Simulation. Please notify us of any changes to your registration as soon as they are known.

We would like to extend sincere thanks to Booker T. Washington Community Center (Auburn) and St. Mary's Church (Waterloo) for serving as host sites for these Poverty Simulations!
